Social Media Monitoring Whitepaper Published

I thought I’d let you know that the Whitepaper I wrote for DW Publishing was published this week. It’s called “An Introduction to Social Media Monitoring” and lists some of my favourite free tools, as well as paid for alternatives.

Regular readers of SWT will know that social media monitoring and measurement is something I’m fascinated by, so I was delighted to be asked to pen something for DW Publishing. The Whitepaper is designed to offer a brief explanation and appraisal of some of the online monitoring tools available, from the free services which are often basic, yet functional, right up to the comprehensive, and comparatively pricey enterprise alternatives.

I hope you find the Whitepaper useful and do get in touch if you’d like a chat about some of the tools.

  2. Hi Ben,

Thanks for mentioning Radian6 in your whitepaper It’s always good to get feedback from third parties and independent users.

Glad you like the breadth of coverage the system provides and I understand your concerns with regards to sentiment. As I’m sure you know sentiment is an evolving tool and to date no one system can claim 100% accuracy while the algorithms are continuously improving, we provide manual coding facilities through our analysts in order to get the absolute most out of social media as we understand the limitations of automated sentiment.

    Thanks again for including us.

      Hey Olivia,

      Thanks for the comment.

I’m a big fan of Radian6 and use it most days for a variety of clients. It’s a great tool and I do recognise that sentiment is always going to be a difficult one to crack. However, I’ve recently come across paid for tools that go some way to answering this question (although not completely) as well as allowing engagement to take place.

I look forward to seeing what new features Radian6 rolls out in 2011.

      Thanks,

      Ben

      Hey Sheldon,

      Thanks for the comment.

I’ve seen a demo by a couple of the Sysomos guys recently – I was impressed with the Map and Heartbeat products which allows people to measure and monitor conversation.

      Thanks,

      Ben
