A Quick Six Month Review

School Report CartoonAt the start of 2014 I set myself four SMART objectives that I’d like to try and accomplish in the coming 12 months – and with six months gone, now is the perfect time to see how the year is turning out.

I like to set myself goals, but the truth is you never know how each year will go, so lets look at how i’m doing:

Gain a deeper understanding of Google AdWords
KPI: pass the Google AdWords Fundamentals exam
I’ve not yet taken the exam – or done much revision. A lot of my free time is rightly taken up with wedding planning at the moment. This and doing my best at work are my big priorities, but i’m confident that i’ll be able to make time for this near the end of the year.

Obtain my driving licence
Once again, i’ve made no progress here. Dublin is a very walkable city. I live 12 minutes from work and most of the people I see are within walking distance or a short cab journey away. I’ve resigned myself to the fact I won’t learn to drive in 2014. But I think 2015 will be the year (sounds familiar, I know).

Get healthier
KPI: lose one stone
I’ve been trying to follow a low-carb diet and made some progress, losing half a stone in four weeks. However, throughout the last fortnight i’ve been travelling a lot and found it harder to eat low-carb on the road. But I’m playing football and tag rugby and have started swimming again, so I feel on track, but need to remain disciplined for the remainder of the year.

See more of the world
KPI: visit two new countries
Done. I’m just back from visiting Amsterdam and Budapest, having attended the iRecruit conference in the Netherlands and a friend’s stag party in Hungary. I’m excited to say I’ll be adding a third country to the list when I travel to Tulum in Mexico for my honeymoon later this year.

There’s a lot of hard work ahead and things I certainly want to improve on, but at this moment in time i’m pleased with how this year has played out. Bar learning to drive, I’m on track to meet my objectives and I look forward to reviewing these objectives at the end of the year.
